What Is A Family Wealth Planning Session?

A Family Wealth Planning Session is where you spend up to two hours with Kristina Haymes and find out what the people you love would have to deal with when you are no longer here so that you can decide if the current state of your affairs is okay with you.

Before your Family Wealth Planning Session, you will complete a Family Wealth Inventory and Assessment, which will help you to get clear about what you own and what you have to think about when it comes to planning for the well-being and care of your loved ones and loved belongings.

If you don't already have your financial house in order, you will after your Family Wealth Planning Session. Haymes Law Group is comprised of lawyers not financial advisors so the approach for this meeting will be to evaluate how to protect what you have now and what you will have in the future from a legal planning perspective – because it is our legal system, the probate courts and state and federal taxes that can potentially interfere with and diminish your family’s wealth. We have partnerships and connections with financial advisors in the area, and if you already have a financial advisor that you work with and trust, we will partner with that person to create a plan that works for you and your family.

What Happens During A Family Wealth Planning Session?

During your Family Wealth Planning Session, Kristina Haymes, Esq. will provide some background and history about how she came to practice Estate Planning Law focused on client relationships and a legal counseling model and how working with Haymes Law Group is different than working with a traditional lawyer.

For example, there are no hourly fees when working with a Haymes Law Group.  Imagine that, a lawyer who isn't billing you every time you call the office!?!

There's other things too, but you'll have to wait to hear about these differences during your meeting, but for the most part you can expect a lawyer who is affordable and accessible and will give you the peace of mind of knowing you never have to make another financial or legal decision without guidance and who will be there for your family when you can't be.

And, you can expect responsive, caring counsel.  You can also expect regular reviews of your estate planning documents.  A whole team approach to customer service, unlike anything you've ever experienced with a lawyer before, and all around good feeling.  The rest you really have to hear about during your Planning Session.

Then, you will share your background and history so Kristina can get a good understanding of where you are now and what's most important to you.

Together, you will walk through the Family Wealth Inventory and Assessment you prepared in advance of your meeting and Kristina will let you know what would happen to everyone you love and everything you own if something were to happen to you now.

If you decide the current state of affairs is unacceptable, Kristina will discuss your planning options with you and help you to make the best decisions about how to get your affairs in order and keep them that way throughout your lifetime for the maximum convenience and care of the people you love.

Who Needs a Family Wealth Planning Session?

You need a Family Wealth Planning Session if you own any assets, including real estate, bank accounts, brokerage accounts, retirement accounts or life insurance that would need to be distributed after your death.

You don't need a Family Wealth Planning Session if all you own is a car, some furniture and clothing.  In that case, you can take care of your planning by setting up a Living Will (aka Advance Health Care Directive) and a Durable Power of Attorney, two documents that all adults needs regardless of the size of their assets.

If you also have minor children who depend on you for their care, you will also need a Child Guardian Plan (Guardianship Plan) to provide for their care if you can't care for them.
